Created in the memory of our dearly departed loved one, Mr. Ben Apfelbaum... this is Ben's new Virtual Memorial Website. Please help build it by sending photos to: jd_farmer2001@hotmail.com (I'll add them and give the photo credit). Also please feel free to send comments and condolences by lighting "memorial candles", etc.
Ben talked about YOU (us)... and now is our chance to speak glowingly about Ben (please go to the "Tributes & Condolences" link above). Also, please come to "The Ben Show"...
YOU ARE INVITED
Spruill Gallery January 12th-March 25th
Opening reception: January 12th, 7-9pm
WHAT'S IN A NAME? "The Ben Show"
Is there power inherent in a name? Is there commonality through a name? Is the use of a given name as a thematic device as useful as any other thematic device to create an art exhibition of interest?
These and other burning ideological questions will be explored in this exhibition of local artists (and some others) with "Ben" as part of their names, presented by our curator Ben Apfelbaum. To the best of our google-based knowledge, this is the first show of its kind anywhere inside or outside the continental US of A in this century! Famed electronic artist, Ben Benjamin, French artist Ben Boutin, Benita Carr, Ben Fain, Ben Goldberg, Benjamin Jones, the late Ben Shahn, Ben Smith, Candace Bennett, Marianne Weinberg Benson, video artist Ben Williams and New South Wales photographer Ben Apfelbaum, are among the participants.
GALLERY NOTE: Ben Apfelbaum, Director of Exhibitions for the Spruill Gallery, conceived and organized this exhibition. Tragically, on September 23, 2005 Ben died very unexpectedly of complications from knee replacement surgery. So while “The Ben Show” will be a showcase of artists with “Ben” as part of their names, please join us in celebrating it also as a tribute to the visionary, irrepressible Ben Apfelbaum.
Three cheers for Ben...
Hip-hip... hoooray! Hip-hip... hoooray! Hip-hip... hoooray!
